ADULT CHOIR
Our church is
thrilled to welcome Robert "Bob" Stone as our new
choir director.
Bob has 35 years of experience in directing choral and
instrumental music, including choirs of all sizes. He
earned a BS degree in Music Education from Grace College
in Winona Lake, IN, followed by a MA degree in Music
Education from St. Francis University in Ft. Wayne, IN.
Bob directed an 80-voice choir and a 250-piece marching
competition band in Indiana high schools. In Indiana, he
also served as choir director at Ossian Presbyterian
Church, Grace Brethren Church, and First Baptist Church.
Most recently, he led the choir at the College Wesleyan
Church on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University. As
a retired resident of Carolina Trace, Bob said "Music is
now my avocation, and Barbecue Church is the perfect
venue for me to participate in music and enhance the
worship experience."
Steve Huepper, chair of the Choir Director Search Committee,
said "Barbecue Church was certainly blessed when God
sent us Bob Stone!"
Joey Holmes, pianist and member of our choir-director search
committee, said, "Before his interview, I was most
impressed by Bob's formal music training and experience
leading choirs of all sizes, plus he took the initiative
to visit our church one Sunday to explore the mutual
fit. During the interview, I was struck by his sincerity
about the role music plays within the worship service,
and I could sense that he would strike the right balance
in challenging and encouraging our volunteer choir,"
Elder and search-committee member, Jimmy McCormick,
said, "Bob is the right person at the right time to lead
our choir at Barbecue."
Whether you are a trained singer,
or just want to make a joyful noise, now is an opportune
time to join the choir. Members meet in the Sanctuary
from 7:00 until 8:00 each Thursday night, and they meet
in the Fellowship Hall at 10:45 each Sunday morning to
rehearse before the Worship Service. Stop by one
Thursday night to join the fun!
